SHOUT OUT — ONDES DE CHOC

shoutout_logo.png

SHOUT OUT! helps you make the links between the realities of girls and women here in Canada and the United Nations human rights treaties which guarantee equality for women around the globe. The final pieces – whether videos, photographs or audio – are featured on kickaction.ca, as well as being part of a national screening and awareness raising campaign.

Commencing on November 28th, 2007, five young women from across Canada had the opportunity to participate in two separate training sessions: one on media arts (hosted by POWER Camp), the other on women’s human rights (hosted by FAFIA). These young women also attended the FAFIA conference in Gatineau as part of their experience. These young women then returned to their communities and were partnered with media arts mentors in order to create videos and photos on their thoughts/experiences/opinions concerning women's human rights and CEDAW.

A ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD ISN'T ALWAYS HOME, by: Jodi Proctor

This video explores the issue of women's homelessness in the Canadian North. It focuses on the Yukon territory, where there is not a single transition house for women, where shelter for those in need is under-provided throughout the territory. The emphasis is on Whitehorse, the largest urban center in the Yukon.
